COMPREHENSIVE RESILIENCE BUILD-UP WITH 83 LEADER REGIONS
Austria’s LEADER regions are local hubs for a wide range of connections within the economy and society. The 83 LEADER local offices support innovative projects from local authorities, the private sector and civil society at a local level, thereby enhancing the region’s capacity for adaptation and renewal in collaboration with the local population as a response to a wide range of challenges. They thus represent an established and agile network for strengthening the regions and fostering internal stability, thereby building resilience across Austria.

This eight-page leaflet provides a concise summary of the LEADER added value brochure and explains what LEADER is, what it improves and how it works. What counts is thinking for ourselves and getting involved – with the aim of helping to shape our environment, our world and our future.
THE NEW LEADER ADDED VALUE
The brochure sets out the conclusions drawn from the transnational LEADER cooperation project „OUR COMMON FUTURE“, a collaboration between Local Action Groups (LAGs) from Austria, Luxembourg, Portugal and Bulgaria, and associated LAGs from Sweden, Finland, France, Spain, Latvia and Italy. The aim of the project was, following a successful history of over 30 years of LEADER/CLLD as a form of participatory regional development, to develop new prospects for the future and to explain why the LEADER approach, as a citizen-centred policy instrument, is particularly relevant right now. How can we better engage with people in rural areas once again and increase acceptance of the need for change?

LEADER works and is an indispensable tool for local authorities, the private sector and civil society – especially now! Numerous (European) studies in the fields of improving regional governance, building social capital, regional adaptability and regional and local problem-solving capabilities in response to global challenges have recognised the value of LEADER, acknowledging it as positive and indispensable.
